Shipsurance Insurance Services, Inc.©, previously Discount Shipping Insurance (DSI), is a private shipping insurance provider. They provide coverage for shipments sent via the major shipping carriers at a greatly reduced rate; often more than 90% off of the carrier rates.

Shipping Insurance
Shipsurance© offers shipping insurance and cargo insurance to all size shippers. They allow low volume shippers to insure with them via their website on a one-by-one basis. Volume shippers can sign up for open coverage and insure all their shipments at a greater discount. Coverage is offered from Lloyds of London©. They also offer coverage through InsurePost.com.

They provide a proprietary reporting software called “eReport” free of charge to their customers. This software allows for electronic reporting with UPS© Worldship©, FedEx© Ship Manager©, Stamps.com©, Endicia© Dazzle, and eBay©.

Rates are typically 50%-90% less that the shipping carrier rates.

    I’ve been using Shipsurance for about half a year. I have had to file two claims with lost overseas shipments. It was relatively hassle free — much easier than with the post office. The rates are much more reasonable than the USPS and I can pass the savings on to my customers.

    Shipsurance is a wonderful company! As the owner of an online vinyl record store (www.recordrelics.com) I send packages all over the United States and many other countries. I began using Shipsurance about 3 years ago and can honestly say I am 100% satisfied with their insurance coverage and also with their customer service when I need to contact them. The staff is very quick to help in the event that a claim is filed and very knowledgeable about every question I have ever asked. For parcel insurance needs I would recommend Shipsurance to anybody. Based on my 3 years of experience with them, it would be hard to convince me that there is any other company in the third party insurance business that is as competent as Shipsurance.

    I can gladly recommend Shipsurance to anybody needing cost saving insurance, easy to use reporting software, prompt claim processing, and an excellent support team. I recently set up a new computer and was having a snag downloading the program for reporting shipments. Not only did they call me back promptly, I got TWO great folks on the phone to get me all hooked up. I am 110% pleased !

    i have used shipsurance for about six months now. they have helped me significantly reduce my ship cost to my customers. they are a bargain compared to usps rates. i have used customer service several times and have found them responsive, helpful, knowledgeable etc. i especially like they give me cards to include with all my shipments with proof of insurance by them and what to do in case of a problem. i have also never had a claim. ask me then what i think. lol thanks

    I find their service convenient and easy to use. It is much faster and less expensive than USPS insurance. The claims process was also easy and I received resolution quickly. The same procedure with the USPS would take months. Highly recommended.

    Just finished my second claim for overseas, and all I can say are good things.
    Ease of processing, and best of all, the nicest people you could deal with. Wish I had this service with eBay and Pay Pal. Can’t even compare.
    Shipsurance is THE BEST! And makes dealing with customers overseas easy.

    I just had to file my first claim with Shipsurance and the ladies in the Claims Department were so helpful- they made an otherwise not so nice experience almost pleasant…definitely easier with their help and expertise. I have been able to increase my sales by offering International customers my merchandise. I can only do this because I have Shipsurance. Their rates are reasonable and I give them high marks for their extremely capable claims specialists. Their service is EXCELLENT!!!

    Had to file 3 claims over the last 18 months. Satisfied with the outcome each time. No long waits like the insurance offered through the major carriers. No sarcastic agents to deal with. All these perks for rates that are at far below the others. Definitely the company to use for eBay sellers. It’s another reason I use Inkfrog to manage my listings. Savings on insurance rates pays for the Inkfrog monthly fee and I still have money left to go towards shipping supplies.

    This was my first claim I’ve ever had to file. It was handled very quickly even though it was filed during the holiday season. It salvaged a relationship with an international customer. I’m pretty happy with Shipsaver. I just wish their maximum coverage were higher, and that they would insure bullion. Except for that, well done!

    Shipsurance pulled thru for me. USPS totally destroyed a vintage turntable that was packed like an armoured car. Still dont know how USPS smashed it, but Shipsurance paid the claim in full and I didnt have to deal with USPS. AND, it was cheaper. 5 stars to them!

    I use ShipSaver for all my shipments and can not say enough for there great simple service. After I had ShipSaver for @ 6 months I had a US Postal shipment lost and the Claims dept. processed my request in just a few days. Since it was for $225.00 shipping I sure was nervous about my first claim with them. Was assured from the beginning the would work with me. Over the years with USPS claims have been a terrible part of my business. I ship all over the world and they have put my insurance needs to rest. HW

    I submitted a claim for damage to a package I mailed to South Africa. The claim was paid in full three days after all the information was submitted. It took USPS 6 months to pay a claim. I have been using Shipsurance for 15 months and I find their prices for local and international shipping very reasonable. I’m a happy customer!

    When I was notified by my buyer their item was damaged on receipt, I was a little aprehensive about filing a claim. As any new process, it took a little extra effort to read through and follow the directions. But the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The claim was paid in full only a few days after the last of the required (and needed) information was submitted. I was very pleased.

    Being able to purchase insurance on international first class mail is a real plus. This is something USPS does not offer. Once all the information was submitted the claim was paid in less than a week. The cost of the insurance is quite reasonable. I insure every item I sell on ebay. Thank you for a job well done. Plus you can talk to a live human being here in the states with any questions or concerns. 5 stars all around.

    Make sure you read all there fine prints before using them. I just got refused on 2 claims since they claimed that once tracking updates the package reaches a certain country they do not insure it past that point.

    Bottom Line. Cheaper Insurance = Cheaper service. I paid 80% less and got nothing for it.

    FYI – I never got refused for a STAMPS.COM claim

    First claim filed in years. Lot of paper work (isn’t that the way with everything) but easy explantions. Received full refund within a decent time frame & much better than dealing with USPS or UPS. Cheaper Insurance vosts than USPS.     Terrible service. Used them (through Auctivia) for years and the first claim I make is denied. They make you jump through hoops then quote their excessively long and thorough conditions. They’re horrible to deal with and then they send you an email saying you can never use them again. Like I would! Price I rated as 2 stars becasue it is better than usps costs but they give you nothing for the $

    As an Ebay Top Rated PowerSeller, I hope all of my shipments arrive safely. Unfortunately, that has not alway been the case and I have filed two claims for damage in the past 60 days with Shipsurance. Both were handled promptly as soon as the required documentation was provided with immediate reimbursement to my PayPal account once the claims were reviewed.     Used Shipsurance for years-reasonably good service. I terminated coverage for temporary closure of business. When I asked for re-instatement-received a quote with 233% higher monthly minimum and 50% higher premiums-Not Good.

    I’ve never had to file a claim but I like how this company works. The only problem I have is how time consuming it is to make the purchase of a single policy, logging in to PP over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over for EACH package. Tiresome and time consuming – hard to justify the extra time it takes for the money saved.

    Requiring me to rate claims is STUPID since I have never had to file one so you do NOT get good ratings for REQUIRING I rate something with which I have no experience.

    GREAT!!! Very quick service. (approx 1 week from start to finish) There is a little bit of paperwork and pictures to submit, but everything can be done via email and works well. I had a very cooperative customer, which helps the process moving smoothly. I can’t say enough how pleased I was with the process. I hope never to have to use the service again, because that means everything arrived and arrived safely. But quite confident that they will be here if I need them.

    I know that seems like a total misnomer to state “great insurance company”, but it is true. We had a fantastic experience with an insurance company! We’ve had some bad experiences in the past with insurance carriers (who hasn’t?) so we were prepared for a typical wait and rejection when we had to file a claim. Much to our surprise, the claim was settled within 72 hours! What a pleasant shock!

    This was my first claim after using Shipsurance for about a year for my eBay sales. Claim was paid quickly, about 1-1/2 weeks. Only problem I had was with my buyer (from a foreign country) in getting him to understand that he had to fill out the online affidavit! Finally that was done and all worked out well.

    Using Auctiva that has Shipsurance as their insurer is absolutely terrific!
    Why use Shipsurance?
    Lets compare:
    1. Lower fees VS. USPS insurance.
    2. Shipsurance covers First Class VS. USPS NO insurance option
    3. Covers all International VS. USPS limited coverage
    4. Shipsurance insurance claims system in integrated with Auctiva/Ebay so filing a claim is so simple, all required fields are already done for you, just few details need to be complete.
    5. Shipsurance quick claim filing(all done electronically) VS. USPS ITS ALL PAPERWORK (International form 1000) that needs to be filled by hand then sent via fax or Snailmail!
    6. Customer service is so available via email, voice, chat VS. USPS where on average you are put on hold up to 45 minutes!
    7. Shipsurance processing of a claim from filing to receiving a check usually is complete in few days (given you provide proper documentation in a timely matter, and you meet all qualifications)
    VS. USPS – I filed 2 International cases in the mid of January 2014, its mid April 2014, and I am still waiting for reimbursement!

    BOTTOM LINE:
    I am a Powerseller on Ebay, and I don’t have time to be on the phone for dozens of minutes per claim (international claims), filling hand written forms, going constantly to Post Office buying more stamps and sending each claim via snailmail, waiting for a claim check for months without straightforward updates. Shipsurance allows me to waste as little time as possible if a claim needs to be made so I can focus what I do best; is to sell!!!

    WOW-what a pleasant surprise this company is. I filed a claim with them for the first time about a week ago. I was a little unclear how to do it so I sent an email for instructions. I got an answer back the very next day and Mia was absolutely wonderful with her reply. She was very very helpful. My claim was settled in one week and my money was deposited into my paypal account. I cant say how happy I am about this-the post office has been breaking my stuff for years and NEVER honored my claims, although after the first two or three I didn’t even bother to file them anymore. Its Shipsurance for me from now on !!

    Very satisfied with Shipsurance. I have been using them for a couple years and recently found that a package I shipped with FedEx was to the best of my knowledge dropped out of a plane to my customer’s front door. I was a bit weary as I had not had to file a claim previously. The claim process was quick and customer service very helpful and of course best of all the claim was paid!

    We filed a claim on the 16th, and got a response (and approval) on the 23rd. Amazing! We were a bit skeptical at first to use Shipsurance because of previous experience with USPS insurance (where the chances of getting an approved claim is somewhere near 0.01%), but they are on a whole different level. The process is simple, electronically transmitted, and takes about 5-10 minutes to fill out all the information per claim.

    howdy, i was not lucky as most. my shipper used shipsurance. i thought i was buying insurance for safe delivery of item. it was damaged badly. i had to get estimates of parts and pieces. assuming the buyer was going to restore it. both estimates were 334 and 335. i got 234 and nothing for labor on assumed restoration. my check was over 2 months out. i guess i was just special.

    On the 2 different occasions that I had a legitimate claim with Shipsurance, they would not pay. If you have to file a claim with these scumbags, they will try to make you jump through a 1000 ridiculous hoops until you finally just give up. It’s SAD, and it’s been going on for many many years.

I sell high end collectibles and there is always a chance an item can be damaged during transit – I can always rest assured that I am covered 100%!     Shipsurance is the ABSOLUTE BEST. I’ve had to file Insurance claims with USPS, GlobalPost and UPS. Just the other day I had an issue with something I shipped via GlobalPost. I didn’t buy Shipsurance on that package because GP said they insure everything up to $100.00. At any rate the package got lost in Brazil. GlobalPost asked me to fill out a form and have the customer sign it. The customer couldn’t understand the Paperwork, so I had to “make” another form in Portugese (using Google Translater), but explained to the customer that I needed them to fill out the “English” form, since that’s the only one GlobalPost would accept. The customer tried to send it back to me with an Electronic Signature, but GlobalPost said he needed to print it out and physically sign it. He didn’t have a printer! In the end I couldn’t file the claim with GlobalPost, so their Insurance is completely useless!
    Compare that with Shipsurance. When a Package on it’s way to Italy was lost, They sent me a link with some info to fill out. Once that was done, they sent another link for the customer to fill out (all online so easily translated to other languages) Customer filled out her part and that was it. Within about a week, everything was deposited back in my Paypal account. Including cost of shipping, insurance and the Retail of what the item sold for!
